Journey Through Time: From Dumfries Estate to Wespow Adventures

Before the sound of ATVs, horseback riding, the memories, and adrenaline, this land was known as Dumfries Estate. In the early 1800s, Dumfries was a plantation etched into the colonial fabric of Jamaica. Its ownership dates back to James Cunningham and William Fairclough, with dozens of enslaved Africans forced to work its fields. Imagine the sight: sprawling rows of cane and crops under the blazing sun, the great house watching over the land, and the haunting silence broken only by the songs of survival whispered in the night. These grounds bore witness to both unimaginable hardship and the unbreakable spirit of a people who carried music, resilience, and hope within them.

The Struggle and Transformation:

Like many Jamaican estates, Dumfries was a place of toil and resistance. Across the island, enslaved people created communities, shared stories, practiced traditions in secret, and fueled uprisings that would lead to emancipation. Dumfries, too, is part of that legacy. And when the plantation era ended, the land shifted hands and slowly lost its former purpose, its soil carrying the weight of history while waiting for renewal.

The Legacy Reborn: Wespow Adventures

Today, Dumfries Estate has been transformed into Wespow Adventures—a vibrant reimagining of the land’s story. Where once sweat and struggle defined the days, now, freedom, laughter, and adventure reign. Visitors don’t just ride trails or create lasting memories; they experience a living testament to Jamaica’s journey through time. Wespow stands as both a tribute and a transformation: honoring the memory of those who endured, while giving the land new life as a place of joy, connection, and cultural pride. Wespow is more than an adventure park—it is a powerful symbol of Jamaica’s past, present, and unstoppable spirit.
